Media portrayal of fashion designer Ly Dumas.

Mosaique

In 2000, Ly Dumas attended notable events. One of them was the Mosaique fashion show, hosted by the French Institute in London, where the designer displayed her summer collection, no less than sixty designs, combining traditional fabrics with haute couture. All the noble African materials were purposely brought to the attention of the English public while underlining the Cameroonian designer’s constant effort to preserve African craftsmanship. The institute’s presentation highlights:

A celebration of cross-cultural exchanges between sub-Saharan Africa and France.

” She wants to perpetuate the ancestral tradition threatened by the assault of modern industry. By combining traditional African fabrics with textiles usually seen today in haute couture, and the simplicity of her designs, she highlights the beauty of each world. ”

Divas

Ly Dumas is on the June 2000 cover of Divas magazine with two pearl corsets worn by China and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Telle mère, telle fille // Like mother, like daughter.

Also featured inside the magazine are several other iconic creations by Ly Dumas.

Amina

Amina magazine, in its August 2000 issue, in an article by renowned journalist Renée Mendy, announces that ”Ly Dumas fête dix ans d’élégance”/”Ly Dumas celebrates ten years of elegance.”

„For a decade, the Dumas brand has been synonymous with elegance. The Cameroonian designer has succeeded in imposing a style harmonising African tradition and modernism. In the beautiful boutique at 104 Avenue des Ternes, the Senegalese Rabal, Mauritanian voile and Cameroonian Ndop reign. These marks of African cultural heritage show that the artist contributes to the revival of our weavers, our beadwork masters and our craftsmen. With a special nod to the Mauritanian women who work beautifully with voile. Through suits, haute couture dresses, and corsets, our fabrics are revisited by the designer uniquely and beautifully. No detail is left to chance. Finishings are impeccable. Embroidery, bracelets, and ruffles all bear witness to meticulous workmanship. It's hardly surprising that the „Ly Dumas’ woman” is "a demanding one who appreciates the almost exclusive side of creation.”
