A life dedicated to others

LY DUMAS RECEIVES THE MEDAL OF THE KNIGHT OF THE CAMEROONIAN NATIONAL ORDER OF MERIT

They say what you do for a person can change their life, but what you do for many can change the world. It is what Ly Dumas has been undertaking for decades. Her selfless dedication towards empowering the less fortunate and her success in significantly improving the life of Cameroonian communities are some of the reasons why she is respected and honoured in her homeland and abroad.

As a natural consequence, in 2024, Ly Dumas, founder and president of the NGO Fondation Jean-Félicien Gacha, received the Knight of the Cameroonian National Order of Merit medal. This prestigious distinction recognises Ly Dumas’ exceptional contribution (through the Fondation Jean-Félicien Gacha) for helping her country of birth. The decades of patronage and the values instilled in her compatriots, speak for themselves. Since its creation in 2002, the foundation has sponsored dozens of students and trained hundreds in various crafts and trades. Therefore, the foundation’s activities have encouraged the younger generation “to feel pride in its culture and roots and assume responsibility for their transmission and survival in time”.

The services rendered to her country are directed within but outside its realmas well. A valuable ambassador, Ly Dumas has tirelessly promoted Cameroon abroad, letting the world discover and appreciate the wonders of this beautiful African land.
